New Delhi: Some Bollywood personalities, including actors Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn and director Karan Johar, have tweeted in support of the Ministry of External Affairs’ (MEA) statement against international support for the farmers’ protest.
Using the hashtags #IndiaTogether and #IndiaAgainstPropaganda, the Bollywood celebrities said that citizens should focus on the government’s efforts to resolve the ongoing farmer crisis rather than paying attention to “half truths” and those “creating differences”.
The tweets were all sent within the same one-hour window.
Their comments came after the MEA reacted to a boost in the overseas response to the farmers’ protest, prompted by tweets by music icon Rihanna, teen climate activist Greta Thunberg and others.

Sharing MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava’s statement on Twitter, actor Akshay Kumar wrote, “Farmers constitute an extremely important part of our country. And the efforts being undertaken to resolve their issues are evident. Let’s support an amicable resolution, rather than paying attention to anyone creating differences.”
Filmmaker Karan Johar said we should make every effort to find solutions that work for everyone and shouldn’t let “anyone divide us”.
Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor said, “Lets stand united against any propaganda.”
Actor Ajay Devgn urged people to be wary of “false propaganda against India or Indian policies”.
Actor Suniel Shetty also shared the MEA statement on Twitter, saying nothing is “more dangerous than half truth”.
Singer Kailash Kher said that India will not tolerate comments against it.
Rihanna, late on Tuesday, tweeted to her nearly 100 million followers about the internet blackout imposed in New Delhi and adjoining areas, where the protesting farmers are camping. She tweeted a CNN news article headlined, “India cuts internet around New Delhi as protesting farmers clash with police,” asking “why aren’t we talking about this? #FarmersProtest.”
Meanwhile, a group of 141 lawyers has written to Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde, asking him to take cognisance of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ decision to suspend internet services in and around parts of Delhi-NCR during the ongoing farmers’ protests.
