Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav took to Twitter to announce that he, along with Bharitya Kisan Union Chief Rakesh Tikait and other members of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha had been taken into police custody at Karnal's Namaste Chowk on Tuesday. The events came after a mahapanchayat was called to protest the August 28 lathi charge which was unleashed on protesting farmers in Karnal.

Farmers marched in heavy numbers towards Haryana's mini-secretariat. The Wire's Mukul Singh Chauhan spoke to the those present at the mahapanchayat supporting the cause of the farmers and standing in opposition to the police lathi charge, to hear what they had to say.
