Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, we bring you The Wire Wrap, where we discuss the top political developments of the week and how these issues will play out in the coming months on the election trail.
In this week’s episode The Wire’s Sravasti Dasgupta is joined by Yamini Aiyar, director at the Centre for Policy Research and The Wire’s political editor Ajoy Ashirwad to discuss the Supreme Court order holding electoral bonds as unconstitutional and the end of the 17th Lok Sabha which saw the Centre and the Congress facing off over the state of the India economy with a white paper and black paper respectively.
Also on the show is the ongoing farmers protest with their Delhi Chalo call demanding a legal guarantee for MSP among other things. Meanwhile, the government machinery has clamped down on the protests with tear gas shells and water cannons.
Uttarakhand has also become the first state in the country to bring a legislation on the uniform civil code, laying the stage for a nationwide UCC.
What are the implications of these developments as we approach the elections?
