A small village in Delhi, Raota, has suffered for years because of unplanned and unauthorised construction around them. More than 700 acres of their farms were submerged in wastewater coming from Gurgaon, Haryana this year, thanks to the overflowing Najafgarh drain.
The village doesn't have panchayat. Instead, it has a councillor, who the farmers say, doesn't raise or understand their issues.
On Friday, while farmers nationwide protested the Centre's farm bills, the farmers of Raota raised an important question. The AAP government in Delhi is protesting against what they call anti-farmer policies. But why has it not done anything substantial to help the cause of these farmers in their own state?
Many farmers with acres of erstwhile fertile land are now forced to buy vegetables and grain from outside. They say they have not received any relief from the state or Central government.
