Asrar-ul-Haq, who is about to turn 80, is better known as the poet Asrar Jamayee. Hailing from Bihar, Jamayee is is known for his peculiar manner and poetry that offers commentary on socio-political issues with biting sarcasm and wit. From former president Zakir Hussain to the first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Jamayee has interacted with some of India’s most popular policymakers. Yet today he lives alone, rendered helpless by an accident that has made him dependent on the generosity of his well-wishers.
