New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a fresh case against Reliance Capital Limited (RCap), its former chairman Anil Ambani, and others, for allegedly causing losses worth Rs 2,684.5 crore to the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). The FIR also named Satish Seth, then group managing director of Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, along with unknown public servants.

The Hindu reported that in its complaint, the LIC had alleged that from April 12, 2012, to March 9, 2018, it subscribed to five non-convertible debentures (NCDs) aggregating Rs 3,900 crore issued by RCap for general corporate purposes, funding requirements and refinancing of existing debt.

The LIC alleged that the accused dishonestly induced it to invest in RCap through misrepresentation and thereafter fraudulently diverted the funds.

According to a report by The Times of India, CBI said it is probing into the roles of Ambani, and the persons involved, to examine the criminal conspiracy and trace the end-use/diversion of invested funds.

Meanwhile, his spokesperson has released a statement denying the charges.
