S. Ramadorai, a Tata Group veteran who led Tata Consultancy Services for nearly two decades, has resigned from his position as chairman of the National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) and head of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and may be headed back to Tata Sons, according to media reports. Chairman of NSDA is cabinet minister-level rank.

Reports have said that Ramadorai may be on his way to taking over Tata Sons, as the replacement for Cyrus Mistry who was removed last week.

Economic Times cited sources as saying that Ramadorai had put in his resignation in late September, citing health trouble, and his resignation had now been accepted by the prime minister's office. The NSDA is an autonomous body that coordinates skill development efforts of the public and private sector.

Ramadorai was associated with TCS for 42 years, completing his tenure as CEO in October 2009. He recently retired as vice-chairman of the company.
