The Wire Wrap: Why Attack on the CJI is Casteist, Will Israel Stop its Genocide in Gaza?
A 71-year-old lawyer hurled a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai in the name of sanatan dharma after taking offence to his remarks while hearing a PIL seeking the restoration of a dilapidated structure of the Hindu deity Vishnu. The attack on the second Dalit CJI of India has been followed by pro-Hindutva groups using casteist imagery on social media, cheering the attack despite condemnation from prime minister Narendra Modi.
