New Delhi: Former MP and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal on Sunday (January 25) said the Muslims in India are safer than ever before as the Hindus are standing by them.

Ajmal’s statement came a day after Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his government would continue to “disturb” the ‘Miyas’ – a pejorative term used to refer to Muslims of Bengali origin residing in lower Assam – to “tame them down”.

“Muslims are safer than ever before in entire India. They have nothing to fear because the Hindus are standing by them. If one Himanta shouts, a jungle doesn’t get emptied. Let him shout Miya, Miya,” said Ajmal,” reported New Indian Express.

Lambasting CM Sarma for his “Miya” politics, Ajmal appealed to Muslims to not to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming assembly elections.

Ajmal also criticised the Congress for what he termed as “giving a 100% walkover” to the BJP. Ajmal alleged that the Congress has ignored its traditional tea garden seats.

“If the Congress wins 23 seats, can it form the government?” said Ajmal asked, referring to constituencies dominated by the Muslims where the Congress has been active.

He alleged that the Congress is playing a dirty game and a possible division of Muslim votes would hit the community hard, reported New Indian Express.
