New Delhi: The Bengaluru police have registered a case against a journalist from Bangladesh and the staff of right wing platform Jaipur Dialogues for allegedly spreading fake news against Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi with the intent of maligning their public image.

The High Grounds police registered the case against journalist Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, who is the editor of the Bangladeshi newspaper Blitz, and Aditi of Jaipur dialogues, reported The Indian Express.

The FIR was filed after Srinivas G a member of the Congress’s legal team approached the police to lodge a complaint on Saturday (August 31).

In the complaint, Srinivas has stated that Choudhury on his X account alleged Sonia Gandhi was an agent of Pakistan’s ISI.

The complainant has said that with the intention of creating enmity between two religions, Choudhary claimed in his post that Sonia Gandhi still follows Christianity despite having inter-religion marriage and acquiring Indian citizenship.

Srinivas G also told the police that Choudhury also alleged that Rahul Gandhi, along with his foreign friend, had sexually assaulted a woman.

The complainant also said Aditi shared Choudhury’s post on her X account, The Jaipur Dialogues, which helped the post reach more people.

The High Grounds police have registered the FIR under sections 196 (Promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 353 (2) (publishing or circulating false information to create hatred on the basis of religion etc) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), reported The Indian Express.
