Bittu Bajrangi Assaults Man in Front of Police, FIR Filed After Viral Video

“They took me to Bajrangi…People said that I was a Muslim and he started beating me up. I sustained injuries on my hand, head and body. They held my hands as Bajrangi thrashed me and threatened to kill me,” the victim said.

New Delhi: An FIR was filed on Wednesday hours after a video surfaced of Bajrang Dal leader Bittu Bajrangi beating up a man – with a policeman in uniform standing by. Bajrangi is currently out on bail after being arrested in a case related to the communal violence in Nuh last year.

The incident reportedly occurred in Faridabad, and the victim – a man named Shyam – said in his police complaint that the mob began attacking him after saying he was Muslim. He was caught by them on his way to buy chocolates for some people, The Indian Express reported.

“They took me to Bajrangi…People said that I was a Muslim and he started beating me up. I sustained injuries on my hand, head and body. They held my hands as Bajrangi thrashed me and threatened to kill me,” he said.

A police officer was present at the site because Bajrangi was given protection after he claimed he faced death threats following the death of his brother Mahesh Panchal in December 2023.

Police spokesperson Sube Singh said, according to The Indian Express, “A case has been registered at Saran police station against Bajrangi and others based on the complaint of Shyam. Appropriate action is being taken.”

The FIR has been filed under Bajrangi and his associates under the Indian Penal Code section 323 (causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), according to PTI.

Singh said that the policeman at the site shouldn’t have allowed Bajrangi to take the law into his own hands, but did not mention whether action was being taken against him.

Bajrangi is a self-proclaimed ‘gau rakshak’.
