New Delhi: The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) on Wednesday (May 13) demolished the house of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) corporator Matiin Patel over allegations that one of the accused persons in the Nashik TCS case was sheltered there before her arrest, reported Indian Express.

The role of the civic body is under scanner as the demolition was carried out despite Patel’s family on Tuesday submitting documents before the civic body’s anti encroachment cell and seeking 15 days’ time to file a detailed reply.

Patel’s family has said that the three-day notice issued by the CSMC violated the Supreme Court’s November 2024 ruling wherein it had laid down safeguards against arbitrary demolition drives.

“We will fight this legally. I assure you that the AIMIM will build Matin a better and bigger place at the same place,” AIMIM leader Imtiyaz Jaleel, who led a protest before the demolition was carried out, told protestors.

The demolitions were carried out after it was alleged that Nida Khan, one of the eight men and women – all of them employees at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) – named in five FIRs alleging sexual harassment and “insulting Hindu religious sentiments” was staying at the corporator’s house before her arrest.

Civic officials claimed that the house in Kausar Baug where Khan was allegedly staying and one of Patel’s offices in the same locality were flagged as illegal constructions, reported Indian Express.

The Wire had earlier reported that the parent of one female complainant, a Nashik resident, had claimed that activists from a “Hindutvawadi sangathan” – a Hindutva organisation – helped them approach the police in the case.
