New Delhi: Following the violence in Nagpur, the Maharashtra police have booked six people on charges of sedition and spreading misinformation on social media, said officials on Thursday (March 20).

According to DCP Cyber Crime Lohit Matani, six persons, including Fahim Khan, who is the city chief of the Minority Democratic Party city, have been booked for sedition in the cyber police FIRs, reported Hindustan Times.

Meanwhile, following a directive of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district administration, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has put up tin sheets on two sides of Aurangzeb’s tomb at Khultabad, said officials.

The tin sheets and wire fencing were put up on two sides of the structure on Wednesday (March 19) night.

On the night of Monday (March 18), violence had erupted in parts of Nagpur after a protest, organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, called for the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb. During the violence, several vehicles were set on fire, shops were vandalised and stones were pelted at the police.

Opposition leaders have targeted the BJP-led Mahayuti government in Maharashtra over the incident.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut had earlier slammed Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, terming the incident as a “gross failure” of his government.
