New Delhi: The Nuh administration has officially denied permission for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s ‘Braj Mandal Yatra’ planned for August 28.
“The DC [district collector Nuh, Dhirendra Khadgata] said that the yatra will not be given permission citing reasons like the upcoming G20 meeting to be held in Tauru from September 3. As the date of the yatra coincided with that of the G20 meeting, it was not given a nod. Concerns around the existing situation in Nuh were also cited while denying permission,” a police official told The Indian Express.
The VHP had announced that it would reconvene for this yatra after its July 31 edition led to communal violence in Nuh and surrounding areas, resulting in the death of six people. Several policemen were injured in the clashes as well.
Residents of Nuh have told The Wire that yatris were carrying weapons, including swords and guns, during their procession.
According to The Times of India, the decision to deny the VHP permission was based on intelligence inputs and the local peace committees, who said the situation is still tense.
