On the evening of July 31, just a day before Eid, the ugly head of vigilantism reared its head again. In Haryana's Gurgaon, self-proclaimed gau rakshaks beat up a man named Lukman, accusing him of selling cow meat.

Before arresting anyone for the assault on Lukman, police sent the meat found in his car for examination in a lab. Police have also registered a case against 'unknown persons' even though the attackers’ faces are clearly visible in a video of the attack that has gone viral.

The Wire’s Shekhar Tiwari visited Ghaseda village in Nuh in Haryana and spoke to his family to determine the state of affairs.
