The Supreme Court on September 2 granted interim bail to activist Teesta Setalvad, who was arrested by the Gujarat Police over an alleged conspiracy to send innocent persons to jail by purportedly misleading the investigation into the 2002 Gujarat riots case.

Several activists, journalists, individuals and rights bodies had called for her release and questioned the circumstances of her arrest.

In this exclusive interview with senior editor Arfa Khanum Sherwani, Setalvad speaks of the background of the circumstances which put her in jail and the condition of incarcerated women in India.
