A video went viral on March 12 where a self-styled Hindutva activist named Shringi Yadav is seen mercilessly raining blows and viciously attacking a Muslim teenager, Asif, for quenching thirst at Shiv Shakti Dham Dasna temple in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Asif had dared to trespass on a forbidden territory to drink water. Perhaps the Muslim boy had not read the strong warning written in bold letters on the temple’s board: “This is a holy place for Hindus. Muslims are strictly prohibited here.”

However, Asif says had he known how to read, he wouldn't have entered a temple. The organised violence on the minor boy has shaken the conscience of people. To find out more about the issue, The Wire's Shekhar Tiwari visited the victim's home in Dasna, Ghaziabad, to take stock of the current situation.
