Due to the reduction in the number of Urdu news bulletins on DD News and All India Radio (AIR) since the pandemic, viewers and listeners of Urdu news have requested Prasar Bharti to restore these bulletins in the same form as their English and Hindi counterparts.

Before COVID-19, there were 10 news bulletin broadcasts in Urdu on both DD News and AIR. In 2020, during the first wave of the pandemic, the number of bulletins on all desks – Hindi, English and Urdu – were reduced following COVID-19 protocol. However, later, the programmes of all languages except Urdu were restored.

Only two news bulletins of Urdu have been broadcasted on DD News and three bulletins on AIR.
