During PM Narendra Modi’s official state visit to the United States, a number of civil society groups brought up the matter of human rights violations in India.>
Hindus for Human Rights, Indian American Muslim Council, Dalit Solidarity Forum, American Manipur Tribal Association, Peace Action, and others held peaceful protests near the White House where PM Modi had a meeting with US President Joe Biden.>
The groups also highlighted the cases of violence against religious minorities, especially Muslims and Christians, in India.>
The Indian diaspora also rolled out a campaign, “Hey Joe! Ask Modi!” to highlight the move to remove the BBC documentary from social media in India, the jailing of activist Umar Khalid and other issues rights infringement.>
Several US Congress members and senators boycotted PM Modi’s session in the Congress and also slammed Biden administration for giving space to Modi.>
