During PM Narendra Modi’s official state visit to the United States, a number of civil society groups brought up the matter of human rights violations in India.

Hindus for Human Rights, Indian American Muslim Council, Dalit Solidarity Forum, American Manipur Tribal Association, Peace Action, and others held peaceful protests near the White House where PM Modi had a meeting with US President Joe Biden.

The groups also highlighted the cases of violence against religious minorities, especially Muslims and Christians, in India.

The Indian diaspora also rolled out a campaign, “Hey Joe! Ask Modi!” to highlight the move to remove the BBC documentary from social media in India, the jailing of activist Umar Khalid and other issues rights infringement.

Several US Congress members and senators boycotted PM Modi’s session in the Congress and also slammed Biden administration for giving space to Modi.
