New Delhi: United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday (May 14) that China's President Xi Jinping offered to help negotiate an end to the US-Israel war on Iran and the reopening of Strait of Hormuz to oil shipments. Trump also said Xi assured him that China would not be providing military equipment to Iran. Before leaving for the state visit to Beijing, the US president had claimed that he did not require China's assistance in resolving the conflict.

The Iran war, trade, technology and Taiwan remained the dominant issues discussed during the three-day visit. According to a social media post on X by Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, Xi warned Trump that differences over Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its own territory, could escalate into conflict if not handled well. The Trump administration sanctioned an $ 11 billion arms package for Taiwan in December 2025, but has not yet moved ahead with the delivery.

Meanwhile, tensions flared near the Strait of Hormuz when a ship anchored off the United Arab Emirates was seized taken towards Iran, while another sank after being attacked near Oman.
