New Delhi: United States President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he “stopped eight wars” including the one between India and Pakistan, as he addressed a bilateral meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince.

Trump was addressing the press following a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office in the White House with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, who was visiting the US.

“I've stopped actually eight wars,” he said in response to a reporter’s question.

“I've actually stopped eight wars. I have another one to go with Putin. I'm a little surprised that Putin has taken longer than I thought, but we stopped India and Pakistan. I could go through the list; you know the list better than I do. I'm very proud and I stopped one that was almost ready to start again,” he added.

“You know, there was one that was ready to start… And they're doing very well. So, it all took place right here in the Oval Office, whether by telephone or whether by they came in. Many of these leaders have come in and they signed their peace deals right here in the Oval Office,” he claimed, without taking the name of the country he was talking about.

On May 10, Trump claimed for the first time, as he announced the “full and immediate ceasefire” between India and Pakistan, that he stopped the countries from going to war after a “long night” of talks mediated by Washington.

Since then, he has claimed more than 50 times now that he brokered peace between the two countries.

Speaking at an address on October 28 in South Korea ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Trump had repeated his claim that he used trade – a threat of a 250% tariff imposition – with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan prime minister Shehbaz Sharif to bring tensions down.

India has consistently denied any third-party intervention in stopping the conflict with its neighbour, though Pakistan has praised Trump on multiple occasions, acknowledging his claims of having brokered the ceasefire during the May conflict.

Sharif even nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for ‘stopping the war’ between the two countries.
