Real journalism holds power accountable
Since 2015, The Wire has done just that.
But we can continue only with your support.
There was a sense of joy in Islamabad when the Taliban took over Kabul in 2021. Imran Khan had said that Afghan people have broken the shackles of slavery. Pakistani experts called the Taliban victory as Islamic victory. But suddenly, the same Taliban has become Pakistan’s biggest enemy.
For years, Pakistan was sending weapons and supplies to the Afghan Taliban. But suddenly things have changed so much that Islamabad hates the regime in Kabul. Likewise, ordinary Afghans hate Pakistan now, whether it’s over a cricket match or over the huge refugee crisis.
What role did the British play in all of this?
What is the difference between the Afghan Taliban and Tehrik-e-Taliban that is accused of killing Pakistanis?
And finally, what will be the impact on India? Is it a disaster for India or an opportunity? Will this bloody situation be dangerous for India, or is this celebration a knee-jerk reaction?
In this interview, international relations expert on West Asia, Bashir Ali Abbas, joins Alishan Jafri to answer all these questions and more.
