The repeated demeaning of India by United States President Donald Trump in recent months and the lack of response from New Delhi cannot be called pragmatism anymore. It is time to push back as Canadian PM Mark Carney suggested middle powers do.

"Ever since Donald Trump started rubbishing India and mocking the Indian prime minister, and making all kinds of claims and criticisms, the Indian response has been subdued," says Sanjaya Baru, author, commentator and former adviser to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
