New Delhi: Wholesale inflation in the country has continued to increase for the fourth consecutive month at 3.36 per cent owing to the rise in the prices of food items, especially vegetables and manufactured goods.>
While the wholesale price index (WPI) based on inflation was 2.61 per cent in May. Back in June 2023, this figure was (-) 4.18 per cent, reported the Press Trust of India.>
“Positive rate of inflation in June 2024 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, manufacture of food products, crude petroleum & natural gas, mineral oils, other manufacturing etc,” the Ministry of Commerce & Industry said in a statement on Monday, June 15.>
The data further added that the inflation in food articles increased to 10.87 per cent in June, as compared to 9.82 per cent in May.>
The statement added that inflation in vegetables was 38.76 per cent during June, increasing from 32.42 per cent in May. Inflation over onion was at 93.35 per cent, while on potato it was 66.37 per cent in the month under review, reported PTI.>
Pulses inflation rose 21.64 per cent in June.>
Inflation in the fuel and power basket stood at 1.03 per cent, slightly lower than May, when it was 1.35 per cent.>
For manufacturing goods, inflation increased to 1.43 per cent in June from 0.78 per cent in May, reported PTI.>
