New Delhi: Soon after the Union government ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the NEET-UG paper leak and conduct of public examinations in India, it has been reported that the Maharashtra police too – in addition to the case in Bihar – has detained people in relation to the paper leak.
Late on Saturday night, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad detained two teachers from Latur district who teach at a government school. Sanjay Tukaram Jadhav and Jalil Umarkhan were detained for questioning, India Today reported.>
Earlier in the day, the Union government had removed Subodh Kumar Singh, the chief of the National Testing Agency (NTA), from his position.
The government also postponed the NEET-PG exam that was scheduled for Sunday as a “precaution”. Several student bodies – including the ABVP, the students’ wing of the RSS – protested this decision and accused the government of destroying the education system.>
Though the paper leak investigation appears to have found suspects across states, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan had claimed on Saturday that the leak was a “localised” affair and the exam that was held does not need to be scrapped, as only a limited number of students were affected. He also claimed that the UGC-NET exam was cancelled because of logistical reasons and not because of a paper leak.
Earlier, Pradhan had tried to claim that there was no leak in the NEET-UG paper either.>
The Bihar police have arrested four people in connection with the paper leak case.>
