New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the NEET-UG results city and centre-wise by Saturday (July 20) noon, ensuring that the identity of candidates is not revealed.

“We were engaging in a detailed line of inquiry. The fact that there was a leak at least in Patna and Hazaribag is (made out). The question papers have been disseminated before the exam, that is undoubted. We want the student’s identity to be masked, you can have dummy roll numbers so that no student’s identity is disclosed. But let us see, centre-wise, what was the mark pattern,” the court said

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, while hearing 40 petitions against alleged irregularities in the exam, on Thursday, July 18, made it clear that there is no question of re-examination until it is fully established that the sanctity of the entire exam was affected.

“Merely because out of 23 lakh, only 1 lakh will get admission, we cannot order a re-examination. Re-examination has to be on a concrete footing that the entire exam is affected,” the court said.

On the issue of the ongoing probe, the bench said, “The CBI [Central Bureau of Investigation] probe is on. If what the CBI has told us is revealed, it will affect the investigation and people will become wise.”

The CBI has already made arrests from Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in connection with paper leak.

The top court will resume hearing on the matter on Monday, July 22.

More than 23.33 lakh students had taken the test on May 5 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including in 14 cities overseas.

On the other hand, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has come out with a notice urging medical colleges to enter their seats on its official portal. The committee will be accepting the seat details from July 20 from the participating institutions for undergraduate counselling 2024 on the MCC portal.
