Telangana: After Public Service Commission Exam, SSC Question Paper Leak Rocks State
New Delhi: Weeks after Telangana saw protests over the question paper leak of a recruitment exam of the state public service commission, a similar incident came to light on Monday, April 3. The Class X question paper of Telugu language exam was leaked, allegedly by a teacher in Vikrabad district.
According to the news agency IANS, the question paper was shared on WhatsApp within seven minutes of the commencement of the exam by the teacher in question, who was on invigilation duty, at an exam centre in Vikrabad's Tandur.
Based on the complaint filed by the district education officer, police swung into action and arrested the teacher. Police said the teacher had shared the question paper on WhatsApp to help one of his students. An investigation is underway to ascertain whether any other persons are involved in the leak.
Meanwhile, the reaction of the education department has been strange. While it denies allegations of the paper leak, it suspended three officials, according to Telangana Today.
The Class X or Secondary School Examinations (SSC) in Telangana began on Monday, April 3, with the first language exam. A total of 4,94,620 appeared for the exam on day one in 2,652 examination centres.
In the neighbouring Telugu state of Andhra Pradesh too, SSC exams began on Monday, and a total of 6.64 lakh students appeared for the exam on Monday. Last year, Andhra Pradesh Police had arrested 70 people, including 45 teachers, after a similar question paper leak rocked the state. Police had said the management of some private schools colluded with government teachers to help some of their students. Like the latest paper leak, teachers in Andhra Pradesh too had shared question papers on some WhatsApp groups.
The latest paper leak in Telangana comes close on the heels of the paper leak of a recruitment exam by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). Several parts of the state had seen protests by government job aspirants, youth groups, and opposition parties over the alleged incompetence of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, which, they said, had resulted in the paper leak. A special investigation team (SIT) is probing into the TSPSC paper leak.
