Amid allegations that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) went out of its way to favour a private firm bidding to run its on-screen marking (OSM) system, which was revealed to contain vulnerabilities after Grade XII students applied for reevaluation of answer scripts, the Union government has ordered an inquiry into the board’s procurement practices.

In response to students and parents reporting various issues with the OSM system, the government on Tuesday (June 2) transferred the board’s chairman and its secretary out of the education ministry. However, no action has been taken against education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, even as teenagers pointed out the deficiencies in the system and the controversial changes made to its tender eligibility document.
