Watch | Shattered Dreams and Betrayal: The Inside Story of A NEET Aspirant

The high scores, due to uncertain reasons, have caused a hyper inflation in ranks, diminishing the chances for thousands of meritorious students to secure seats in medical colleges.

The results of the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) 2024 exam, an entrance test for MBBS courses across the country, have sparked controversy.

The exam, held on May 5, saw over 2.3 million aspirants appear, and the results were declared on June 4, on the day when the 18 Lok Sabha results had occupied every inch of news media space.

Along with accusations of a question paper leak, numerous other complaints have been directed against the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the entrance test. Among the top scorers, 67 students achieved full marks (720 out of 720), with 6 of them from a single center in Haryana, something that experts say is almost impossible. Typically, only 2-3 students achieve full marks, making this year’s results unusual.

The high scores, due to uncertain reasons, have caused a hyper inflation in ranks, diminishing the chances for thousands of meritorious students to secure seats in medical colleges. Following student protest and massive online outrage, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has set up a panel to investigate all the allegations. The protesting aspirants and their parents are demanding a re-exam.
