Commercial LPG Cylinders See Price Slash for the First Time This Year

New Delhi: Oil-marketing companies today (July 1) reduced the prices of commercial liquefied petroleum gas or LPG cylinders by an average of Rs 180 per cylinder, now that the pressures of the war in West Asia appear to have eased since the signing of the US-Iran deal was signed on June 17.

Commercial LPG will now cost Rs 2,930 per cylinder in New Delhi, PTI reports, after touching a record Rs 3,113 last month.

A commercial cylinder in Mumbai now costs Rs 2,885, after being reduced by Rs 182 a cylinder. Prices in Kolkata have been reduced by Rs 174 to Rs 3,081.5 per cylinder. In Chennai, a Rs 177 reduction has the commercial cylinder selling at Rs 3,106 now.

On April 1, commercial cylinder prices were hiked by Rs 195.50, and by Rs 114.50, prior to that, on March 1.

On May 1, the Union government increased the prices of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by a record Rs 993. This was a more than 40% increase over the April prices. Cumulatively, the prices of commercial LPG cylinders went up by a massive Rs 1,303 in three months.

The price of five-kg free trade LPG cylinders has reduced by approximately Rs 13 per cylinder, to Rs 808.50 in New Delhi.

There is no relief yet for domestic cylinder owners. The price of domestic 14.2-kg LPG cylinders remained unchanged at Rs 942. Its rates were last hiked by Rs 29 on June 7. The price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder earlier used to cost Rs 913.

This is, nonetheless, the first reduction this year.

The price of aviation turbine fuel for domestic scheduled carriers have also been slashed by Rs 5 per litre, to Rs 110 per litre.
