E20 Petrol Will Destroy Your Cars: Expert Points Out Key Issues With Govt-Imposed 'Biofuel'

India last month hit its target of using 20% ethanol mix in petrol, known as E20 petrol, five years ahead of schedule.

Yet, E20 is rapidly deteriorating the quality of vehicles in India, says car expert Amit Khare.

The government claims that it will reduce oil consumption, benefit the environment, and increase farmers' income. However, supplying E20 for BS3 and BS4 vehicles causes damage to fuel pumps and engines, leading to a 3-6% drop in efficiency of cars and bikes. Even though ethanol is cheaper, E20 is priced the same as regular petrol, offering no real economic savings.
