Leading energy analyst Tim Buckley argues that the economics of coal is on a decline, the climate movement has led to disinclination to invest in coal, and therefore, in the present climate, renewables have provided a viable alternative.

In this global environment, Buckley, who is director of Energy Finance Studies with the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), contends that it is unlikely that India’s move to open up the coal sector will find many takers.
