New Delhi: In 2023, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government claimed to make Delhi a 'City of Lakes' by reviving its natural lakes and creating artificial lakes. "You will be able to see lakes and beautiful landscaping all over Delhi," chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had said.

However, existing lakes in Delhi, such as the Sanjay Van Lake and Timarpur Lake, are polluted, diminishing, and struggling to survive. In the wake of the 2025 Delhi assembly elections, the AAP government's claim remains a far-fetched dream.

Will AAP be successful in truly establishing Delhi as the 'City of Lakes' or does the plan need a stronger push?
