New Delhi: The national highway that connects Uttarakhand’s Joshimath with Malari and Niti on the Indo-China border was washed away on Thursday (July 25), leading to a complete halt of the traffic.

“A 20-metre stretch of the Joshimath-Malari-Niti National Highway (NH-107B) in Chamoli was washed away on Thursday morning after the retaining wall collapsed due to incessant showers throughout the night,” said Nand Kishore Joshi, disaster management officer of Chamoli, reported Times of India.

As a result of the blockade, the movement got completely halted, also affecting the movement of the Army and ITBP convoys heading towards the border.

Officials said that repair work was being carried out at the highway and it was expected that the highway will reopen once the work is completed.
