Biparjoy is a tropical cyclone that is forming over the Eastern Arabian Sea.
It is the second cyclonic storm and third depression of the 2023 North Indian Ocean cyclone season.
On June 16, it made landfall near Naliya, in Gujarat. By late June 19, Biparjoy was downgraded to a depression and moved into a well-defined low-pressure region.
The Bengali word "biparjoy" translates to "calamity," and it was recommended as the name for the cyclonic storm by Bangladesh.
The World Meteorological Organization issued a decree for naming the cyclone. This is the second storm of the year in the North Indian Ocean, following Cyclone Mocha in the Bay of Bengal.
Unlike Mocha, Biparjoy is located on the western side of the Indian mainland and entered the Arabian Sea in June, where it acquired its name, Cyclone Biparjoy.
