The experimental town of Auroville, located mostly in the Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu and parts of Puducherry, is in the midst of a crisis.

While the town's residents are supposed to shun differences and live in harmony, that harmony has been seriously disturbed recently. Currently, its residents are protesting against the crown road project, a 4.4 km long road for which many trees will be felled. The residents are not opposed to the project itself, but want it to be constructed without the disruption of the environment. Sumedha Pal of The Wire breaks down the whole issue in this video.
