CBFC Suggests 16 Cuts to Dhadak 2, Alters Dialogues Referring to Caste-Based Discrimination

New Delhi: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the release of Dhadak 2 after making several modifications including the removal of scenes featuring caste-based discrimination such as slurs and violence.
The movie, which was originally supposed to release in November 2024, was later postponed to March but it missed this changed release date as well, reported The Hindu.
The film, starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi is a remake of the 2018 Tamil anti-caste film Pariyerum Perumal and has been rated ‘U/A 16+’, the second highest maturity classification below ‘A’.
The CBFC has suggested sixteen modifications to Dhadak 2, while the original Tamil movie was released after four cuts.
The modifications included the change of one dialogue in Hindi, which originally was, “3,000 years of backlog will not be cleared in just 70 years.”
This was changed to, “The backlog of age-old discrimination will not be cleared in just 70 years.”
Similarly, the use of caste names as slurs such as “chamar” and “bhangi” have also been muted and replaced with “junglee,” respectively. Another line saying, “Dharam ka kaam hai,” (“this is religious work”), was replaced with “Punya ka kaam hai” (“this is [work toward] a good deed”).
Another dialogue featuring what seems to be a reference to an analogy by Kanshi Ram, the Bahujan Samaj Party’s founder was also reworked.
Recently, after objections were raised by some Brahmin groups on the basis of the film Phule’s trailer – the CBFC had directed the makers to alter the mentions of caste names like ‘Mahar’, ‘Mang’, ‘Peshvai’ and ‘Manu’s system of caste’.
