New Delhi: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the state’s own Over-The-Top (OTT) platform at Kairali Theatre on Thursday (March 7).

The platform, called CSpace, is India’s first government-backed OTT platform. According to Mint, CSpace has been launched to address the challenges and growing imbalances in the OTT sector concerning content selection and propagation.

Noted film director and chairman at Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), Shaji N. Karun, emphasised the platform’s role in tackling these challenges during a press conference.

The OTT platform is managed by KSFDC, a state-owned entity entrusted with the promotion of Malayalam cinema. Operated on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Kerala, CSpace has established a curator panel comprising 60 members, including eminent cultural personalities, from the state.

Cultural figures such as Benyamin, O.V. Usha, Santhosh Sivan, Shyamaprasad, Sunny Joseph and Jeo Baby are part of the curator panel. Every content submission to the platform will undergo evaluation by three curators from this panel, assessing its artistic, cultural and infotainment merit.

The platform currently houses 42 films, including 35 feature films, six documentaries and one short film, and is available for download on both Android and iOS devices. Users are required to pay Rs 75 per movie as part of the platform’s pay-per-view model.
