New Delhi: Police in Gujarat’s Dahod district have arrested a government school principal for allegedly killing a six-year-old girl student.

The class I student was allegedly smothered by the school principal when she resisted his attempt to sexually assault her in his car on way to school, said the police, reported The Indian Express.

Since the principal was driving to the school from the girl’s village, her mother had entrusted the child in his care. After murdering her, the principal allegedly dumped the girl’s body in the backyard of the school after the school hours.

As he carried out his duty during the school hours, the body of the girl was hidden in the principal’s car, said officials.

“From the time at which he left the school after dispersal, we had a clue that something was amiss… During interrogation, he confessed that he had attempted to force himself upon the victim on the way to school in his car. However, the girl had resisted and began screaming. To silence the girl, he smothered her…,” said Dahod Superintendent of Police Rajdeepsinh Zala.

The police added that the school principal also tried to mislead the officials that he had received a call from the class teacher of the child that she was missing.
