New Delhi: Fifteen parties who are part of the INDIA Alliance, along with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) have jointly urged Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to include the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as one of the ministries whose working should be debated in the Upper House.

While the Rajya Sabha chooses four ministries to discuss their allocations and workings, so far the business advisory committee of the Upper House has chosen three ministries – Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, reported Deccan Herald.

After Dhankhar announced the name of the third ministry and kept the decision pending on the fourth ministry to be discussed, Trinamool Congress Floor Leader Derek O’ Brien said that the MHA must be discussed.

Dhankhar responded by saying that a decision will be taken after discussion.

Thereafter, a joint letter was submitted to Dhankhar by 15 parties of the INDIA Alliance and the BJD, demanding a discussion on the working of the MHA.

As I recall, other Opposition parties, including the Congress, DMK, CP(M), BJD and AAP had also verbally indicated MHA as one of their preferences,” O’ Brien said in the letter, reported Deccan Herald.

Other parties such as the Shiv Sena (UBT), Samajwadi Party, CPI, NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), JMM, Muslim League, RJD and Kerala Congress (M) have also supported the demand raised by the Trinamool Congress.

The opposition is likely to raise issues including the violence in Manipur, alleged misuse of centra agencies and terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in the discussion on the workings of the MHA.
