New Delhi: A Reuters/Ipsos poll has found that President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen in recent days to its lowest point since he returned to the White House in January, 2025. The widespread disapproval of the war he launched on Iran is the one statistic that stands out.

The survey found that 61% disapproved of the strikes on Iran, compared to 59% last week. Only 35% of Americans approve of the US strikes on Iran. This is down from 37% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted last week.

These numbers are surprising for a country that is currently at war, and would have rung alarm bells for Trump and his administration, gearing up to face the mid-terms in November.

A February 28-March 1 Reuters/Ipsos poll had found 27% of those asked approved of the strikes, 43% expressed disapproval and 29% said they were unsure.

46% of respondents said the war in Iran will make the US less safe in the long run. Only 26% said it would make the country safer. The rest said it wouldn't have much effect either way.

The average price of gas in the US has shot up by about a dollar a gallon since the war has started and that could also be a key reason for increasing disapproval of his handling of the war.

Only 29% of Americans approve of Trump's handling of the economy.

This, reports Reuters, “is the lowest rating in either of Trump's presidential administrations and lower than any economic approval rating of his predecessor, Democrat Joe Biden”. This may be particularly problematic for Trump as he campaigned on a vibrant economy against Biden.

The poll was conducted online and nationwide, and recorded responses from 1,272 US adults over four days. It says that it has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
