74% Increase in Budget Allocations For Intelligence Bureau, Paramilitary Forces Too Get More Share

New Delhi: The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has seen a whopping 74% increase in budget allocations as compared to last year. The increase is mostly because of a rise in estimated capital expenditure which would involve spending on infrastructure, reported Hindustan Times.

Back in 2025-26, the overall budget estimate was 3893.35 crore, while revised estimate was Rs 4159.11 crore. But in the budget for 2026-27 announced on Sunday (February 1), the budget allocation for the IB, which is under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has increased to Rs 6782.43 crore, recording a 74% rise.

Of this, capital expenditure accounts for Rs 2549.54 crore, which was only Rs 230.76 crore in 2025-26

The overall the budget of the Union Home Ministry has also seen an increased from Rs 2,33,210 crore to Rs 2,55,233.53 crore. The Central Reserve Police Force, which is India’s largest paramilitary force, has also seen its budget rise to Rs 38517.93 crore from Rs 35,147.47 crore in 2025-26.

The Hindustan Times report added that the Union Home Ministry and the CRPF are working to send CRPF’s COBRA force to Jammu and Kashmir.

Similarly, budgetary allocations for other paramilitary forces under the Union Home Ministry, such as the Indo-Tibetan Border Police have also been increased.
