New Delhi: Assam independent MLA Akhil Gogoi was briefly suspended from the state assembly on February 19 for disrupting the reply of Public Health Engineering Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah.

During the zero hour of the assembly, as Barua was responding to a query raised by AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita about the water supply scheme of Guwahati, Gogoi had interjected and termed the PHE department as “totally useless.”

“The PHE department is totally useless. It’s looting public money. There is no water supply to people’s homes. I request the CM to order an enquiry into the works of the PHE department,” said Gogoi, reported the Press Trust of India.

While deputy speaker Numal Momin asked him to sit down several times, Gogoi continued to attack the minister.

“Akhil Gogoi, you are suspended for 10 minutes,” Momin said thereafter and asked the Marshals to escort the MLA out of the House.

After the completion of his suspension time, Gogoi returned to the House.
