Despite health risks during the coronavirus pandemic, Accredited Social Health Activists or ASHA workers across the country have continued to work on the frontline, ensuring timely delivery of health services. Ahead of Bihar assembly elections, The Wire's Pawanjot Kaur speaks with these frontline health workers in Muzaffarpur about their demands.
The ASHA workers raise concerns over the non-payment of the COVID-19 incentive of Rs 1,000 per month for three months during the pandemic, and a lack of personal protective equipment kits. Apart from that, they also demand recognition and respect for performing their duties, sometimes even without timely pay.
