New Delhi: Rahul Navin, the acting chief of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has been appointed as the probe agency’s new director for a period of two years.

Navin, a 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) official, was given the additional charge as ED director in September 2023 following the completion of the tenure of Sanjay Kumar Mishra. Navin had joined the ED as a special director in November 2019.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Rahul Navin, IRS (IT:93074), Special Director, ED as Director of Enforcement in the Directorate of Enforcement for a period of two years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” an order from department of personnel and training stated.

The Union government had appointed him as acting ED chief in September 2023 after the Supreme Court held the repeated extensions to Sanjay Kumar Mishra as the director of the probe agency “illegal”.

Navin’s tenure has been marked by some high-profile cases and arrests including that of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy and Jharkhand chief minister in a money laundering case.

On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS Nalin Prabhat, who is currently serving as the director general of the National Security Guard (NSG), has been made the police chief of Jammu and Kashmir.
