CRPF Sub-Inspector Injured In Violence Near Senapati-Kangpokpi Border in Manipur

New Delhi: A sub-inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured after a bullet hit him on Monday (August 24) along the border of the Senapati and Kangpokpi districts in Manipur.

A bullet hit the left foot of CRPF sub-inspector Pradeep Singh of the 36th Battalion during the fresh spate of violence which broke out on Monday, reported Indian Express.

Singh was deployed at an outpost in Matanmai Naga village, Senapati, near the border with Taphou Kuki in Kangpoki district. As per preliminary reports, Singh was hit in crossfire between the Naga and Kuki village sides and is undergoing treatment at district hospital, Senapati.

The Indian Express report added that the violence on Monday started around 2.40 am at Taphou Kuki, where a house was allegedly set on fire by unidentified persons.

While fire and emergency services personnel reached around 3.30 am, more incidents were reported around 4 am in Mareimei, in Senapati district, where a house belonging to Nagas was reportedly set ablaze and another demolished by unidentified persons.

Subsequently, firing broke out, which further escalated the situation. In the aftermath of the violence, security forces have been deployed in Taphou and adjoining areas.

The incident also led to disruption of traffic along NH-2, the Imphal-Dimapur highway connecting Manipur and Nagaland.

Notably, transport services on NH-2 had resumed only last week, after three years following the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023.
