New Delhi: The crisis in West Asia triggered by the US and Israel’s war on Iran entered day 61 on Wednesday (April 29). In a major setback to the US, Iran has been elected as one of the vice presidents of the 2026 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference at the United Nations headquarters.

The development, amid the US and Israel’s war on Iran reflects the deepening isolation Washington on the global stage. Earlier, NATO countries had refused the call given by the US to participate or aid in the war against Iran.

Meanwhile, after reports emerged that US president Donald Trump has instructed officials to prepare for an extended blockade of Iranian ports, oil prices have further surged. On the other hand, despite a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon in place, Lebanon’s National News Agency has reported that Israeli forces have launched air attacks on the town of Hanine at dawn, destroying several houses there.
