New Delhi: The Pune railway station has not removed posters featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi even after 48 hours of the Model Code of Conduct – that prohibits promotion through government schemes – coming into effect, Indian Express has reported.

The Model Code of Conduct or MCC comes into force with the announcement of the election dates by the Election Commission of India. The EC declared the Lok Sabha election dates on March 16.

Express’s report notes that flex banners and posters with Union government schemes advertised on them had not been removed within the 48 hours in which the MCC stipulates they be removed.

Station officials told the paper that some posters and selfie points with Modi’s photos had been removed.

This report was published on the Indian Express website at 4.12 pm on March 19 – according to the time stamp recorded on the news page – and appeared on the print version the following day.

A day ago it had been reported that Chandigarh election staff had reported the bulk messages being sent by the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre from a ‘Viksit Bharat Sampark’ account, as an MCC violation.
