New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday (August 26) raided the home of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj in connection with alleged irregularities in the construction of 24 hospitals in 2018-19.
The raid comes months after the BJP-led Delhi government’s Directorate of Vigilance (DoV) sought the Centre’s nod to initiate a probe against former Delhi ministers Bhardwaj and Satyender Jain in the matter, reported Indian Express.
Bhradwaj’s residence was among 13 locations in Delhi and nearby areas that the agency raided in connection with the case. The investigation into the matter was initiated after then Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta filed a complaint.
The ED has alleged that the construction of the hospitals – worth Rs 5,590 crore – was marred by delays and escalated costs remain unexplained.
Earlier, the DoV had asked for permission from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government to probe Bharadwaj and Jain under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government has claimed that it has “prima facie” found evidence of cost inflation, delays, and misallocation of funds pertaining to the sanction and construction of 24 hospitals across the city.
While Jain has been among the AAP leaders who have been facing allegations of corruptions and were arrested, this is the first time that Bhardwaj has been facing such allegations.
After it lost the 2025 Delhi assembly elections, the AAP had made Bhardwaj the president of its Delhi unit. Bhardwaj, who was earlier an MLA from the Greater Kailash constituency, had also lost his seat to the BJP.
