New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested members of the Hindu Sena for vandalising the official residence of AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi at Ashoka Road in the national capital. Owaisi has alleged that the attackers had arrived in a mob and shouted communal slogans during the assault, which has injured his housekeeper.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Deepak Yadav said five people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident. Owaisi tweeted late on Tuesday, September 21, that a sixth person has been detained.

“My Delhi residence was vandalised today by radicalised goons. Their cowardice is well known and as usual they came in a mob, not alone. They also chose a time when I was not home. They were armed with axes and sticks, they pelted stones at my house, my nameplate was destroyed,” Owaisi tweeted.

In a thread, Owaisi also wrote other details of the attack and added that his caretaker has been assaulted.

“Raju, the caretaker of the house for the last 40 years was assaulted. The mob shouted communal slogans and threatened to kill me. Raju’s grandkids are living in fear now. Raju has filed a complaint with police. Hope action will be taken,” he wrote.

Owaisi also wrote that this was the third time his residence has been attacked, in spite of the fact that his house is located at a key location and shares neighbourhood with other lawmakers.

Police said they received information regarding the incident at around 5 pm and rushed to the spot.

A senior police officer told PTI a case has been registered at the Parliament Street police station against the accused – who were from northeast Delhi for damaging – public property.

In a video clip uploaded on social media, state president of the Hindu Sena, Lalit Kumar, can be heard saying that the outfit’s members went to Owaisi’s residence “to teach him a lesson” as he “speaks against Hindus at his rallies.”

National president of the outfit, Vishnu Gupta, has claimed the outfit were offended by Owaisi, PTI has reported.
